Polygalae radix, senega snakeroot.
Senega snakeroot consists of the dried root with remains of aerial stems of Polygala senega L. and/or other closely related species or a mixture of Polygala species [Fam. Polygalaceae], as well as its preparations in effective dosage.
The roots contain saponins.
Catarrhs of the respiratory tract.
With prolonged use, gastrointestinal irritation.
1.5 - 3 g root; 1.5 - 3 g fluidextract (following Erg. B. 6); 2.5 - 7.5 g tincture (following Erg. B. 6); equivalent preparations. Mode of Administration Comminuted root for decoctions and other galenical preparations for internal use.
